PdF2008 Update: Zittrain is Coming, and Idea Market is Up

With just 19 days to go (gulp) til Personal Democracy Forum 2008 opens its doors, we’re pleased to announce that Jonathan Zittrain, Professor of Internet Governance and Regulation at the Oxford Internet Institute, and the author of the important new book, The Future of the Internet: And How to Stop It, will be keynoting day two of the conference.
I recently heard Jonathan speak (at the Berkmanat10 event) and he is at the top of his game right now. Plus his book is a must-read; it’s convinced me that the term “generativity” ranks up there with “open source” and “networked” as one of the key organizing principles of the new world we are living in. Zittrain makes clear that the generative properties of the web as we now know it can’t be taken for granted. Get ready for a tour-de-force.
We’re also pleased to announce the line-up of hosts at this year’s Idea Market, which will be taking place during the breakout sessions on Day Two. Imagine a flea market for ideas, with tables and presenters scattered around a large room, and attendees free to vote with their feet and spend as much time or as little as they like, sampling the topics on offer. Here’s our list of expert hosts and their topics:
*Mark Blumenthal, Pollster.com, “How Not To Be Fooled By Polls”
*Zack Exley, Revolution in Jesusland, “Revolution in Jesusland: The New Evangelical Politics”
*Rebecca Hayes, Michigan State University, “Social Networks, Politics and Youth”
